A Note of Mourning

September 8, 2022

Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ our Risen Lord. In hearing the news of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom today, I felt compelled to write a note of mourning. If you don't know, the reigning monarch of the United Kingdom is also considered to be the "Defender of the Faith" for the worldwide Anglican Communion. While United Methodism is not in direct connection with the Anglican Communion, we share a common history, common practices, and even common doctrinal standards. Our hearts are with the British Royal Family on the loss of their mother, grandmother, and aunt, and with the British people on the loss of a cultural icon and compassionate leader. We hold the bishops, clergy, and people of the Anglican Communion in our prayers. Let us give thanks for Elizabeth's life of service to her country and God. May she be an example for us in selfless service for the common good and unwavering faith in God. Grace and peace, Pastor Seth+
